 colic days after colic

My son is 4 1/2 months old and the colic seems to be subsiding...so yes everyone it will get better!!! But his sleep is still poor and we seem to have colicky days here and there...is that the trend when they are coming out of it? Those of you who have been through to the other side...will the colic pop up after you think it's gone? It is hard to then figure out if it is the colic or some other concern health related. Any experience would be appreciated.

Yes, there is no sudden disappearance of colic, but rather a gradual lessening of "bad days," as compared to good (no colic) days. And yes, there will be surprise bad days after a relatively long string of good ones, too. As always, it's best to cycle through a check for medical or other problems before assuming it's still colic, too. Whenever our son, Gavin, had his routine disturbed (by extended visits of houseguests, especially) or got overtired or missed his normal mealtimes, it was as if we had gone back in time to his old horrible colic days, and he would be incredibly hard to manage for a day or two. So watch for disruptions; they can trigger "bad days."

So, yeah, I'd say you've got a good idea of how it works. When colic leaves, it's gone, but you can still have days that make you think you've gotten into a time machine and dialed, "Colic H e l l." :)

Thanks Rebecca...I guess the reality of it all is it doesn't just disappear as I would wish it would!! Those days just pull you back down...but someday this will all be behind us all, right!?

Absolutely! It does go away, I swear on my son's eyeteeth. I actually videotaped one of Gavin's colic fits and kept it for posterity, threatening to show it to his prom date someday. Whenever I get enough of his "terrible twos," I watch this fit to regain perspective.

Still think I'll show it to his prom date, too. ;)
